DAY 1
08/07/2021
DAY 2
09/07/2021
That's because it's A PERFORMANCE ABOUT PRISON ABOLITION SO REAL THAT TO TELL YOU ANYTHING WOULD RUIN THE REALNESS.
Ever wondered what it’s like to be a prisoner, an inmate, a jailbird, a con, a lag, a lifer, a nirk?
Wanna get a taste from the safety and comfort of your own theatre seat?
Time Inside is like time inside, it’s what you make of it …
The aim is not entertainment — it’s experience.
Alright alright … I’ll give ya a little taste of what happens in the show!
It show starts with these words:
Okay. So:
‘What do we do ... with all the serial killers ... you smart ass?’
The creator of what you’re about to experience is a prison abolitionist.
Which means they believe in the end of putting people in cages — forever, for ANY reason.
And the question,:
‘Okay, so. what do we do with all the serial killers ... you smart ass?’ ... is a common pushback.
Here’s the honest answer: ‘
‘No fucking idea, tough guy!’
Abolitionists don’t pretend to have all the answers, they just know that the current system does not work ... AT ALL.
The system may have you believe it’s there to save us from Hannibal the Cannibal, but, in reality, it mainly just further punishes human beings who’ve already had lives of abuse, trauma, poverty, lack of options, mental illness, and addiction, so end up doing what we call … ‘bad things’.
Abolitionists believe the constant threat of ‘criminals’ doing ‘bad things’ is by design, to prop up this world wide system of punishment, which they believe is just another system of control, no matter how humanely it’s done.
‘Bad people’ doing ‘bad things’ — as seen on the news — keeps us constantly scared, even as crime falls ... It keeps us believing the only way to deal with all this ‘evil’ is for our faceless government bureaucrats to take revenge IN OUR NAME.
But fear and vengeance does nothing to heal our hearts ... it only blackens our souls. Even worse when we hand the power over to those lawyers and judges and prison wardens who have no interest in healing.
Abolitionists believe that just like when we accepted slavery as normal, accepting a system where we dismiss other human beings as ‘criminals’ ... and throw them away ... corrupts ALL of us, everywhere, every single day, whether we think about the cages or not.
Abolitionists believe we can take back control, do better, make a more humane and just society.
We like cage free eggs, so why not cage free humans?!
The last thing the creator of this piece wants you to know is that, when they were a baby, their mother went to prison ... for 6 months.
To this day, decades later, their mother is still too traumatized to talk about what it was like ... to spend ...
… Time inside.
